Chapter Eleven

Emma stood at the back of the room, watching the muscles in Will’s forearms flex as he wiped down the bar. It had been a slow night, not unusual for a Wednesday, and they were closing down an hour early. No real reason for them to stay open when they hadn’t had more than a handful of customers since the five o’clock dinner rush.

Silently, she observed Will as he moved, straightening up and making sure the day shift would have everything they needed. The top few buttons on his white shirt were undone, giving a small glimpse of the satiny skin of his chest and the soft, sparse dark hair that covered it. At some point, when she wasn’t looking, he’d rolled the long sleeves of his dress shirt up to his elbows. She couldn’t see it now, not with the waist-high bar blocking her view, but her memory supplied the image of how the black jeans he wore hugged his sexy ass, and outlined the bulge behind his fly to perfection.

Emma studied his noble features: wide-set chocolate brown eyes, thick brown eyelashes and winged brows, the full jut of his plump bottom lip. Without the square jaw line and devilishly sexy cleft in his chin, he would’ve been boyishly cute. As it was, she found him roguishly handsome.

She tilted her head to the side, just a wee bit, and sighed. So in love with the man, she sometimes made herself sick with her mushy thoughts. She could scarcely believe she’d been involved with Will and Paul for close to a month.

After that first night, they’d been nearly joined at the hip -- or more delicate parts of their anatomy -- for the rest of her vacation. It was simple to hide her comings and goings from her mom while off work. The woman worked long shifts at the hospital and if Emma chose to stay out half the night, she told her she was out with friends or some such nonsense. Her mom was actually glad to see her getting out more, and had commented on it more than a few times.

Once back on her regular schedule, Emma found it hard to carve out enough time for her men, work, and sleep. Most nights, she was lucky to get more than an hour or two nap in before she was forced to sneak out of the warm, snug grip around her and drive home to a cold and lonely bed.

More and more, she found herself wanting to share her happiness with the world. She knew why Will wanted to keep things quiet. After the backlash he’d received from his relationship with Paul, he was obviously wary of advertising any more weirdness to the locals. Not that he’d said as much, but it was the impression she’d gotten. Afraid to rock the boat, she hadn’t really pushed the issue with him.

She and Paul had, of course, discussed it, and were of like minds about everyone else’s opinion regarding their private lives.
